Chinese-Americans have collected $5,725 for the victims of the China earthquake. This amount of money will be sent to Sichuan Red Cross Society.
The donation will be used for the victims’ daily, such as food, clothing, water and temporary shelter like tents.

Fr. Perez gives his first blessing after ordination

Father Ronald P. Perez a Filipino-American from Batangas, Philippines is the oldest candidate that was ordained by Archbishop Edward Cardinal Egan of New York last May 10, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. He was a former paralegal at Midtown law firm.
His decision of becoming a priest is a measured one, because he based it in his activities inside his home parish, which is St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

When Yao Ming learned about the incident from a message through a cell phone, he then didn’t take his ear out for latest news updates on the web and television.
He became more sorrowful when he had received information that the number of deaths became higher. He donated millions of dollars and still wants to do even more. He has also done an advertisement advising the people to donate for those victims. Yao said that after these tragedies China will soon see the rainbow which is the upcoming Olympics.

Chinese-Americans have donated almost $300,000 for the survivors of the destructive earthquake in China as of May 18.
The Chinese Embassy to the United States has been busy since the tragedy. They build up an emergency management system and a 24-hour hotline for those who would call for donations.

Min Liu, assistant director of the Long Island Library Resources Council had sent a group email to fellow librarians about supporting the victim of the earthquake that happened in China just recently.
Liu just emailed this statement “The most touching scenery goes beyond all the bloody pain, the tears and crying of babies, parents, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives. It goes right to the peek point of how people love and support each other and how people sacrifice their own lives for others.” and let the minds of those librarians do thinking of what to do…

More than 200 entertainers performed at the Flushing Mall, Flushing New York City for the assistance of those victims of the May 12 China tragedy. The group includes martial arts practitioners, musicians, singers and many more.
The performance has been successfully done in three days and the feedback has been an amazing expression from the Chinese community.

Yao Ming and Chinese Olympians
boost quake relief fund

Yao ming was very sorrowful about the earthquake that happened to China just recently. He and the other athletes are helping to give assistance for the victims.
His team Houston Rockets has already given two million yuan ($300,000) for the victims and has initiated worldwide petition for more donations. Yao’s testimonial at the NBA’s website: “It is very hard putting into words how difficult it is to see this kind of destruction in Sichuan.” He was among the many athletes from China who have given so many efforts in generously sending assistance for the victims of the China tragedy.

“I think the times are different because people feel more comfortable with their own identities and make a distinction between being Asian and being Asian American, said a senior art history major and Chinese minor At UC Berkeley .
Asian Americans do sometimes think that if their home country is being disparaged, they ought to be disappointed being an Asian American. For instance, Ziwei Hu, he was born in California , but has Chinese parents and grew up in Mainland China. Until now, Hu teaches his daughters to love United States. There are also situations that they are into China like in a game, they are cheering for China even though they are residing in the United States.
