Liu Says City Government Needs ‘Real Reforms’ Not ‘Political Cover’

Opposition parties attack Korea-U.S. beef deal

Labeling the beef agreement an “unconditional concession” to the United States, opposition parties are moving to fend off the early ratification of the free trade deal, which has been pending in the respective legislatures of the two countries since September last year.

Cubs pull Fukudome shirt after Sun-Times report

Cubs management who received e-mails from offended fans immediately investigated and put a stop to the sale of Kosuke Fukudome T-shirt bearing a racist image. The Cubs also demanded to cease production of the “poor taste” t-shirts.

Sun-Times reported on Friday the sale of the said T-shirts near Wrigley Field. The shirt used the traditional Cubs cartoon bear face but with slanted eyes and wearing oversized Harry Caray-style glasses. It was accompanied by the words “Horry Kow!” scrawled in cartoonish “Japanese” script. The production and sale was discovered unlicensed.

Police seek suspect in third armed robbery at UT

Third incident of robbery involving Asian students was reported at The University of Texas. The suspect described as a male standing 6 feet tall with a medium to muscular build was said to be wearing a mask and gloves and a brandishing weapon. He approaches students who walk alone and got away with cash and credit cards. The robbery at the Taylor Hall which happened on Monday, April 21 between 5:30 – 6 pm, was a precedent to two other robberies at the Robert Lee Moore Hall and the Music Recital Hall, which are all located at the northern section of the campus.

The police are now tracing the credit card transactions but whether the suspect is a student or not, the police still has to find out. They released precautions to students to always stay on groups or lock themselves in rooms whenever possible, stay in a well-lighted place or call the police dept for a sure walk escort or to report any suspicious activity.

Overseas Chinese in U.S. protest against media bias in Tibet issue coverage

“American media, you can muzzle our voices, but cannot smother the truth!” reads one banner….

“We Chinese American feel outraged by the biased Western media coverage on the Lhasa riots and Olympic torch relay, and I think it is time to have our voices heard”, said Ma Xiping, one of the organizers of the event.

“How can you say the Dalai clique’s violent attempts to sabotage the Beijing Olympics are ‘peaceful actions’? We must tell people the truth and stop media distortion,” she said.
