Beach volley: Ilustre-Pascua gains main draw

Heidi Ilustre and Diane Pascua both Filipino Americans are the Philippine Pair are into beach volleyball gaining points to be able to make it to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. These two have joined a lot of competition, and fortunately won those trophies and awards. The pair has already won at bronze medalist for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha and the 2005 Southeast Asian Games and they earned 680 points for it.

They have to be in the top 24 in order to be able to make it to the Olympics and secure a first ever Philippine draw out.

Yao’s main concern is to stay on court

“Hopefully this time in our homeland we can give our people a surprise and for ourselves too.” This was Yao’s statement when he was interviewed by the press people of Beijing and New York. Yao ming wants to make it at least to the top eight of the upcoming Beijing Olympics. There are no frail players in the Olympics, because it is composed of the best ones in every continent.

This time Yao is much more positive of his games, because of the experiences on injuries he has gone all the way through. He had been injured from his toe and his right tibia.

Recovering Yao wants top-eight finish in Beijing

“Hopefully they treat the hosts better,” Yao joked Thursday. He is referring to the referees that would treat him the easier way this time, when China and U.S. are going to be together in one event. He wants big probabilities for his team to be on top eight at this year’s Olympics.

Although he took a break for his rehabilitation for his fractured left foot, maybe by now or in Olympics time he will surely get it on.

Teen prodigy Wie ready for LPGA comeback

Korean-American Michellle Wie will be competing for the first time since she sprained her left wrist. It will be held at LPGA Michelob Ultra Open.

Wie once quoted: “I expect myself to keep my head in it, not expect too much out of myself, just go out there and enjoy it, commit myself 100 percent to every shot.

“I don’t regret any choices that I made when I was younger,” Wie said. “You only have one try at life.

Is Anthony Kim the next great golfer

Compared to Tiger Woods, a 22-year old Korean-American named Anthony Kim was fated to be the next great golfer whether he wins or not for the Wachovia Championship. “I played with somebody who played extraordinarily good, almost Tiger-esque,” Jason Bohn said. When Kim misses a shot, he can recover exceedingly well.

He had recently finished a respectable but simple 60th on the US PGA Tour. This time he is playing in a prime of life and the results are speaking for themselves.

NORWOOD CLAIMS PBL SLAM DUNK CROWN

Three perfect 50 scores, left-handed windmill jam, and two-handed slam off the backboard are the keys to having a slam dunk crown of 6 foot 5 Gabe Norwood. He was the new dunk king of the PBL at San Juan City last May 4, 2008.

Norwood arrived very early for the said event and left the audience begging for more…“I did what I wanted to do; I’ll just save some of the things in my mind for next year,” said Norwood.

Fil-Am Spoelstra is new coach of Miami Heat

NBA’s Miami Heat Coach Pat Riley’s assistant now has his position. Filipino-American Erik Spoelstra is now the new coach of Miami Heat, after being the assistant for the past 13-years.

He was the one training young players like Dwyane Wade. His mother is a Filipino and his dad is a Dutchh-Irish.

10-year old Fil-Am wins World Sport Stacking tilt

A record of 1.86 seconds for the Individual 3-3-3 Stack Division, this year’s champion is Filipino-American boy from Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He is also the champion for the Individual Stacking Division with the speed of 6.21 seconds.
Stacking is a sport where contestants stack up 12 cups in different order in a remarkable speed.

MFA celebrates baseball’s Japanese-American connection

An exhibit titled “Rockwell and the Shinjin” (the Japanese word for “rookie”) displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston will run through July 20. It showcases Red Sox memorabilia that includes Hideki Okajima’s 2007 World Series jersey and a ticket stub from the 2008 MLB Season Opener that was recently played in Japan.

“With this exhibit, I wanted to connect Opening Day with Japan,” explains curator Karen Quinn. “The Japanese collection is important part of the museum and has been called the best in the world.” (Quoted from Milford Daily News)

Yao makes progress in recovery

Yao Ming found a more modest source of happiness after returning from China and the periphery of the anticipation about the Beijing Olympics to Houston just before the start of the NBA playoffs. Yao returned to Houston and was cleared to stop using crutches in his recovery from surgery to repair the stress fracture in his left foot.
