Korean-American Killings Shake Communities

There has been a chain of killings of Korean-Americans in New York and New Jersey. In Tenafly, New Jersey, there are many Korean-Americans lived there, and a man in his 70’s, a woman in his 50’s and a young man in his 20’s were found dead in a house last Friday afternoon. The police do not consider this as a random homicide, neither a robbery.

Before the incident happened, there was another one that took place that morning. A 63-year old woman, owner of a dry cleaning shop named Kyong-Sok Woo was found lifeless inside her shop. Policemen figured it out that it was robbery, because Woo’s car was not there, only to think that it had been stolen by those criminals…

Liu: Reform Mayor’s Slush, Too

The Councilman of Queens, John Liu said at an interview “…As we have all seen this week with the revelation of millions and millions of dollars of mayor’s discretionary funds, the truth becomes - the truth becomes clearer,”

This is with regards to Mayor Bloomberg’s unrestricted funds which has been bothering the government. They had planned to take actions on that already, and what they are planning is to improve the budget process in the city council. And they will also be asking for other bodies of the government and their opinions so that all would have knowledge into what’s going on with the budget.

Court approves extradition of Korean-American murder suspect

A Korean-American was arrested 10 years after Washington requested Seoul to hand him over. This Korean-American killed a former policeman at his own house and committed burglary as well, last 1996 and was released on bail after a year.

When the time came that he was arrested he even suspected the U.S. judiciary that if they sentenced him to death, it will be a racial discrimination.

Questions About Reform In Midst Of Pol Scandal

There has been a scandal happening at the office of the Council Speaker, the news said that millions of dollars from the taxpayer’s funds has been secretly concealed under some fake organizations.

After that, for all the investigation they are doing another and as the first situation was spread-out, another one came. Two council staff members are suspected to have been caught red-handed, and Erik Dila, a Brooklyn Councilman is been suspected in having practically $200,000 for his wife’s non-profit organization.

Members of the council are so affected by what had happened. Bayside Councilman Tony Avella said: “It’s unfortunate, but the only way you get reform these days is by scandal. We can only hope that out of this will come transparency,” he said. “I hope people are listening. Time will tell.”

Gang charged over UEA race attacks

Scale 4 Physical Attack: The majority group vandalize minority group things, they burn property and carry out violent attacks on individuals or groups. Physical harm is done to members of the minority group. Examples: lynchings of blacks, pogroms against Jews in Europe, tarring and feathering Mormons in the 1800s.

According to this article:

  • A gang of youths arrested following a campaign of racist attacks on students - including a stabbing on the university campus - have been charged, police said tonight.

    Seven men, aged between 17 and 21, will appear before Norwich magistrates next week accused of a string of incidents involving assault and intimidation which caused international outcry.

    They are accused of terrorising black, Asian and Arabic students at UEA.

Conviction in vicious attack on Queens Chinese food deliveryman

Here’s another story to add to our list of Chinese food deliverymen who were murdered/brutally attacked:

The Associated Press reports:

  • A man who lured a Chinese food deliveryman to a housing development and then viciously stabbed him has been convicted of attempted murder, the Queens district attorney’s office said Wednesday.

    The attacker — alarmed by his victim’s loud screams — ran away as 39-year-old Jian Lin Huang lay on the floor, bleeding profusely.

    David Moore, 23, of Manhattan was arrested after TV stations aired security video from the October 2006 crime scene at the Ravenswood Houses in Astoria. He was convicted late Tuesday of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and fourth-degree weapon possession.

    Moore, who is jailed on $300,00 bail, faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 23.

Forum targets crimes against Asians

Tammy Peng walked out of a popular Asian supermarket in Hacienda Heights and was attacked by a man trying to steal her purse.

Peng, a lawyer with the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, said she was lucky to get away with just bumps and scratches. But she said many others in the Asian community have not been as lucky.

That’s why she assembled a forum Saturday aimed at the Asian community with officials from cities, business and law enforcement. While Peng said purse snatchings and other types of property stealing are frequent for Asian-Americans out shopping at specialty stores, many of the crimes go unreported.

Suspect in infamous ‘pinky-ring murder’ captured

Kamaludeen is accused of “hiring or inducing” another man - illegal Carlos Filomeno - to carry out the fatal attack on Calder.

In the Bimbi killing, a longtime criminal who testified as a Crown witness described how Kamaludeen had first asked him to murder the businessman before allegedly convincing to the 17-year-old to do the job.
