New cultural center serves Boston’s Chinatown
The Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center’s new Community Arts Center is offering a slew of cultural classes — lion dance, Mandarin and calligraphy, to name a few — aimed at addressing the new wave of Asian Americans from outside Chinatown and the area’s non-Chinese residents, The Boston Globe reports.
Says Giles Li, the center’s new arts coordinator: “This is a response to the way the community is changing. Some people used to live here and are looking for a way to stay connected, and some people are moving in and have never had a connection with Chinese culture or Chinatown. We want to bring all these diverse populations together.”
