Forum targets crimes against Asians
Tammy Peng walked out of a popular Asian supermarket in Hacienda Heights and was attacked by a man trying to steal her purse.
Peng, a lawyer with the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, said she was lucky to get away with just bumps and scratches. But she said many others in the Asian community have not been as lucky.
That’s why she assembled a forum Saturday aimed at the Asian community with officials from cities, business and law enforcement. While Peng said purse snatchings and other types of property stealing are frequent for Asian-Americans out shopping at specialty stores, many of the crimes go unreported.
