Daniel Dae Kim arrested in Hawaii

Posted in Activism and Empowerment at 6:16 am by george_lou

These kinds of pics are rare

Daniel Dae Kim, actor on ABC’s Lost, has been arrested for suspicion of drunken driving.  No one was injured.

Historically, the producers of the show haven’t been easy on their actors.  Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Watros and Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje had their characters cut after incidents with the law.

Oh boy, doesn’t look good.  Will Daniel meet the same fate?  He’s just one of so few Asian actors on American tv.  Lets not forget about the service Daniel is doing for the Community.  He’s helped raise our political participation while speaking against racism.  Click here for that video.

Now lets return the favor by simply sending ABC a quick and easy proactive message in support of Daniel.  Tell them not to dare cut him.  Click here for that page

Thank you all.

Buzz Cuts Are So 20 years ago.

“Your hair is so difficult to cut! Asian hair is…… argh!!!”

I’ve heard countless barbers utter various of the above phrase throughout my life. I didn’t know any better; I just thought that was how my life would be…. forever. [sigh] A friend of mine recommended Hair Kuwayama and I’ve been going there ever since. (Note: All of their hair stylists are seasoned professionals with years of experience in cutting Asian people’s hair.) The fact of the matter is that only the best hair stylists can cut Asian people’s hair well.

You see, because our hair is so straight, the slightest mistake during the hair-cutting-process will be amplified a million times more than if you were cutting a white-American’s hair. So only real pros can do it right. Check it out– Hair Kuwayama.

US to impose sanctions on Iran military - reports

Posted in World News at 4:10 am by william_lee

WASHINGTON (Thomson Financial) - The US is to announce unilateral sanctions against Tehran today, aimed at isolating a critical section of the Iranian military, the Washington Post reported.

The unilateral sanctions will designate the elite Quds force a supporter of terrorism and the Revolutionary Guard Corps a proliferator of weapons of mass destruction, the Post said.

The measures, to be announced by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, will allow US officials to press hundreds of foreign companies doing business with Iran’s military to back out or risk US sanctions, the Post said.

Why does this matter? Well, it’s quite possible that not all countries in the world will unanimously back the US on this decision. What if some Asian countries jump on the band wagon, but some don’t? What if China decides that it doesn’t want to participate? We all know that would lead to some kind of propaganda war on China which, even though it is directed at Chinese nationals, will still affect US Citizens who happen to be of Asian descent. Do you think the average white-American knows the difference between a Chinese national and a US Citizen (hell, even a person born in the US who speaks perfect English) who is kind-of-Asian-looking? Maybe, but then again, maybe not.

So even though none of these theoretical scenarios have actually happened yet, it’s probably a good idea to stay abreast of international developments like this. Have a nice day!

You don’t have to be Asian to join us…..

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:02 am by william_lee

How many times have you heard these phrases at various Asian American themed events:

  • You don’t have to be Asian to join us!
  • We are open to all kinds of people!
  • We want to be accepting of people of all backgrounds!

Even now, years after I’ve graduated, I still return to my alma mater once in a while and I’m still sad to see that certain club/student organization events that bear names similar to “Asian Cultural ….. Event” or “Asian Cultural …. Fashion Show” are promoted with these phrases.

This incessant need to include non-Asian Americans in Asian themed events is kind of silly, because it’s almost like pandering and kow-towing to non-Asian Americans. If someone wants to attend, they’ll attend. It should just be left at that.

To throw some added perspective, take a look at this article. The fact that research of this nature is actually needed really speaks volumes of the society we live in. Speaking of clubs and organizations, the upper management of the organizations being investigated are basically kind of like a club. Some would call them “an old boys club.” (Take a wild guess at the skin color of the members.) Are they so openly inviting non-whites by saying “you don’t have to be white-American to join our management organization!!”

Fun Fact: One of the most watched Chinese Language TV studios in New York is almost entirely employed by Asian Americans, but contains a management board that is almost exclusively white-American.

Talk back: If you are Asian American and are (or someday plan to become) the owner of your own business, will you be as exclusive as most of these “old boys” clubs are being in terms of your hiring decisions, or will you do a “you don’t have to be Asian to join us?” Click on the “comment” link below to leave a comment, or call us during this Sunday’s podcast from 7:45pm - 8:10pm EST. 212-255-2898

Jackie Chan Flexing Olympic Vocal Cords

Posted in Media and Entertainment at 11:08 pm by george_lou

Actor Jackie Chan has just recorded one of the official songs for the 2008 Olympics.  It is titled, “We Are Ready.”  It’s purpose is to further promote the Beijing Olympics.

Heard Jackie sing before?  He’s actually pretty darn good.  Actually, he’s very good!  That’s no surprise since he started early at the China Drama Academy.

The song is composed by Peter Kam.  He is the winner of a Silver Bear award for best film music in the movie Isabella

Thank god the committe didn’t decide to use just anyone.  Imagine Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.  His lyrics would have sounded like this: “My country is gonna beat yours up, you Ch**** and Go*ks!”

Visit Jackie’s site at www.jackiechan.com.  Support the Olympics.  Boycott mark wahlberg’s movies.

Smokin’ Korean Teens

Posted in Health, World News at 5:53 pm by telly_wong

Korea Smoking
“Stop nagging me, woman! I can quit whenever I want!”

Why do Asians love smoking so goddamn much?

Just three weeks after we reported about the smoking epidemic in China, where The Chinese are consuming 42% of the products by the world’s three largest tobacco companies, this new report comes in from Korea about their own nicotine habit.

As with China, it’s also a case of good news and bad news in Korea, according to the Korean Association of Smoking and Health.

The good news is that adults and high school boys are slowly quitting. Among the latter, the rate dropped from 23% in 1988 to 20.7% in 2006.

The bad news is that teen smoking is on the rise after years of significant declines. In 2004, the rate among middle school boys dropped from 7.4% in 2000 to 2.4%. However, in 2006, the rate climbed to 5.3%. Among middle school girls, the rate increased from 0.9% in 2002 to 3.3% in 2006, and from 2.4% to 5.2% for high school girls during that same period.

According to the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention, teens who smoke tend to drink four times and have sex eleven times as much as their non-smoking counterparts. The Center also cites a correlation between smoking and suicide, as the number of teens who have attempted to kill themselves is three times greater among smokers.

While I can see the connection between smoking and drinking and suicide (as cigarettes are sometimes used as antidepressants), I have a difficult time comprehending how smoking increases your chances of getting banged.

Now I think smoking is a disgusting habit and another form of mental enslavement by The Man. However, if there is an interrelation between cigarettes and sex, I strongly urge the guys over at Stanford to look into how nicotine can play a greater role in their lives.

Governor Phil Bredesen (Tennessee), Bastion of Cultural Sensitivity

Posted in Politics at 1:32 pm by william_lee

Gov. Phil Bredesen writes from his nine-day trade mission to China that he’s signed a letter of intent to have about 50 Chinese health officials visit Vanderbilt University every year beginning in 2008 to learn more about the U.S. health care system.

Here’s an excerpt from the governor’s latest dispatch:

  • Let’s start with the bottom line. If my country wants the 21st to follow the 20th as another American Century, we’d better get to work.

I have now spent a day in Beijing. The scale, the energy, the focus of this place is astonishing. I’ve thought of China as a giant, poor third world country (remember those Chinese coolies who built the railroads?) now charging onto the industrial stage for the first time. That’s wrong; for most of several thousand years of world history, China has been the dominant economy in the world. They’ve had a tough 150 years by responding too slowly to the rapid changes in the rest of the world; this is a blip to them and they intend to fix it.

Sound off: Whether this is insulting to Chinese nationals is not within the scope of this website. However, we ask you, our readers, what effect does language like this have on Asian Americans? Click “comments” below to give your 2 cents.

China’s Future: One Giant Sausage Party?

Chinese Men
“Hey, anyone here have a sister?”

Does the Los Angeles Times have some kind of anti-China agenda these days?

Actually, now that I think about it, who doesn’t these days? Or perhaps the Times appointed Matt Drudge (an internet “journalist”, professional link poster and Yellow Perilist) as the new Editor-in Chief.

On Monday, the Times published this feature about China’s growing gender disparity — in which it also highlights similar phenomenons in Korea, Taiwan and Pakistan. This article comes only three days after the Times’ pathetic excuse for an expose that attempted to blow the whistle on Hillary’s monetary support from New York City’s Chinese American community — even though all donations were made legally. But hey, the donors were Chinese so something’s gotta be up…right?

Everybody already knows that there is a growing gender imbalance in China because of the one-child policy and Old World villagers who prefer boys to girls and blah, blah, blah. This is OLD, OLD NEWS.

So I find myself scratching my head as to the purpose of this story. What’s the point? Beats me. It’s not timely and doesn’t tie into a recent trend or current event. But I guess there are no other newsworthy happenings going on in the Los Angeles area these days. Oh wait, isn’t there like a fire or something?

Although I must admit, I do gather some mild amusement from these types of articles because they boldly suggest that if there aren’t enough Asian women, Asian men won’t be able to find wives. As if Asian guys are –and should be– limited to only marrying and procreating within their own race and ethnicity.

We here at Fallout Central beg to differ:

Never Forget: Mark Wahlberg the Asian Hate Criminal

Posted in Uncategorized, Community Offenders at 2:43 pm by george_lou

mark_wahlberg.jpg

Yes, Mark Wahlberg as in the actor Mark Wahlberg. Did you know that back in the day, Marky was a total bad boy? Lets take a look at the heinous hate crime he committed. This guy must be related to Ronald Ebens who killed Vincent Chin.

- Back in 1988 Wahlberg approached Thanh Lam, a Vietnamese man, calling him “Vietnam fucking shit.” He then proceeded to hit Lam over the head with a large wooden stick. Thanh Lam was knocked to the ground unconscious.

- Later that same day, Hoa Trinh, another Vietnamese male, was punched in the eye by Wahlberg. He later lost the eye.

- After Walhberg was arrested, he made numerous unsolicited racial statements about “gooks” and “slant-eyed gooks.”

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment, and was released after 45 days. Where is the justice in that?  Did he use Johnnie Cochran?  Hitting a man in the head with a large stick CAN KILL.

Ladies and gentlemen, of any and all races, why do you continue to support this hateful man? Do everyone a favor and boycott his movies. That is the very least you can do.

Think about it: these two victims could have been any beloved family member of mine. And they could have been any beloved family member of yours.

Feel free to express your opinions on other boards: Rottentomatoes.com and IMDB.com.

Never Forget.

Should we just stop complaining?

This editorial written by Michelle Malkin provides some additional insight into the why, on the subject of Asian American donors to the Clinton campaign, Asian American advocacy groups are completely in the wrong. From Michelle Malkin’s editorial we learn:

  • The Los Angeles Times and the New York Post are beacons of journalistic excellence. Lumping all Asian Americans is A-O.K!
  • The LA Times’ utilized various negative Asian stereotypes as a way of showing that all Asian Americans participating in our country’s political system are shady– Norman Hsu shady. Anyone who challenges this viewpoint is actually turning “the debate away from candidate and donor responsibility to the collective ‘rights’ of the entire ‘Asian American and Pacific Islander community.’”

I’m not here to question the correctness or incorrectness of Michelle Malkin’s viewpoints. The questions I have for you, our readers, are:

  • Is there a difference between having an Asian-looking person write this kind of editorial versus a non-Asian looking person? (Example: “See! Even one of your own people thinks you guys should shut up!”)
  • What effect does Michelle Malkin’s last name have on the way this kind of editorial is perceived by white Americans, if any?
