Tila Tequila: Slicing away those Asian women stereotypes
There’s this Asian American musician I know who complains to me all the freaking time about the lack of APAs on MTV. Well, now he can shut the hell up ’cause his prayers have been answered!
Well, Sort of.
This week, MTV launched a new reality show featuring one of the world’s most famous MySpace members, Tila Tequila aka Tila Nguyen. The program is a Bachelor-style dating show called “A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila”.
And the twist?
Since Tila is bisexual, men and women will be competing for attention on national television, and, oh yeah, her heart or love or whatever.
Tila is hoping the exposure will help launch her burgeoning music career so she will no longer have to dry hump cars for a living anymore at import rice rocket shows.
And, oh yeah, she hasn’t told –as she calls them– her “strict Asian parents” that she’s bi yet.
I predict this year’s Christmas card from Tila to them will read:
Thanks for escaping the fall of Saigon to give me a better life in America.
As a sign of my gratitude, I will embarrass the holy hell out of you both on national television.

Not hot in person and her “bisexuality” is a gimmick. I’d rather have no APAs on MTv than an APA who will just perpetuate more stereotypes of wanton asian sexpots.
