True, her attempt at comedy was to the detriment of the Asian and Asian-American community. Unfortunately, her stereotype and joke is a truth and not just racism or prejudice. You know, my family just came back from the city of Wenzhou, China, and my dad came back to report to me that it had dog meat hanging off carts and windows just like we have our poultry and pork hanging off the windows of our Chinatowns. I guess what we need to teach the public is that though there is truth in Chinese or even Koreans (as the old stereotype goes), that that is a byproduct of poverty and village culture in China and it does not extend Americans of Asian descent. I am starting to see that fighting is of no use. Education and educating is the power. As I go on with my life living in a society that sees Asians and Asian-Americans as perpetual foreigners I start to understand the old Chinese proverb my father has always lectured me with when I got into fight fights with racist, and the proverb is, “Take a step back and there is calm. Stop a step and the world becomes clear”

Goldberg’s statement is offensive as it was in no relation to the Vick’s case. It is irrational how she compared an inhumane dog fighter living in a modernized world with some Chinese who are living in a ‘not so’ democratized society? Yes, eating cats and other morally inedible creature is a byproduct of poverty and is considered inhumane in the eyes of a modern world, however, this does not mean to say that we should rationalize with Goldberg on her statement. Her statement did not represent the sincere truth, instead she is implying that the public ’should not label Vick as soley barbaric since there are other uneducated barbaric people out there’. It is uncanny how she had to drag an Asian country into the discussion. Furthermore, her ruling out other ethnicities who once ate anything to survive at one point in time is misguided. I can only conclude that she is a closet racist and beyond glib.

I’m sick and tired of people in the african american community who are willing to say anything and everything, even offensive things, to support a criminal simply because he’s black. We’ve seen such behavior with the OJ simpson trial and we ALSO saw such behavior with the Kobe bryant trial.
In my opinion, the biggest enemy of the black community is their refusal to accept personal responsibility and instead, is always casting blame on others (”the man”). When one refuses to acknowledge one’s own mistakes, when others continue to rationalize a person’s mistakes, then the society at whole loses a chance to learn from a mistake.
Whoopi feels she’s in the right to say such defamatory things about asians because the unfortunate fact is that people are more concerned with PC when it comes to blacks than they are with whites. Also, Whoopi does not believe that asian americans have the ability to punish her for her words, as we’re relatively few in numbers(?)
Regardless of whether or not some asians eat dogs (and africans eat monkeys. That’s how the aids virus was introduced into humanity), consumption of meat is NOT a crime.
Someone needs to tell whoopi that in this country, there is such a thing as law and order. No matter what subculture a person is from (in vick’s case, the south), we all must follow the same rule of law. Dog fighting is illegal and inhuman and there is no way that Vick does not know this.
Someone needs to tell whoopi that in this country, we eat chicken, but we do not allow cock fights.
