Fallout Central Workshop: Shanghai
To our readers/listeners in China:
FALLOUT CENTRAL will be holding a workshop this Saturday, July 28, 2007 (from Noon - 1PM) in Shanghai. We are seeking progressive individuals who are interested in challenging negative stereotypes and misrepresentations of Asians on a global level.
Through solidarity and the establishment of a worldwide network, we believe we can shift perceptions and create positive social change.

too bad i’m up here in Beijing…
The most pressing question I’d like to ask is what can be done to fight white privilege and white-against-Asian racism all over the world. For example, it’s no secret that many “sexpats” get preferential treatment in Asia, and Shanghai is probably the number one city on mainland China with regards to this.
What can Asian-Americans and native Asians do to combat the atrocious racism in Asia given that native Asians literally worship the ground these whites walk on?

Well, there’s not really much you can do. Part of that preferable treatment westerners get comes form the idea of them being a rich materially and having something to benefit from. The other reason is that many Asians don’t really know their own history and world history at large, but its not really their fault.
As Asia prospers and benefits reach the major populace, the notion of western culture being rich and afluent will wear off soon.
The interesting thing about Western culture is that it was developed by 3 different grounds.
Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome and “west Asian” Israel.
Out of the 3, the one with the biggest impact on western societies was the distinct culture and religions from “West Asian” Israel, (I mean that in a positive way, nothing anti-semitic)
As people in Asia take serious studies into their own history and world history, they will start seeing things in a different light. Stereotypes and insults will mean nothing. All the good and bad things other nations have done will be known and Asians will start seeing other non-asian people as just normal people, with nothing too special about them.

@ Daniel, I can deduce that you’re an Asian-American who haven’t lived in Asia for any length of time except probably as a cultural tourist.
I can tell you many stories up here in Beijing, and my other ABC friend in ShenZhen can tell you stories down there about the sort of auto-racism and white-is-right mentality that these Chinese harbor to the extremes.
It’s not simply about money, but alot of other social problems that lead to white worshiping in China to the point of psychosis.
Just read the forums section of www.thatsbj.com to see the sort of losers that come to China and how the Chinese worships them despite these “sexpats” harboring extreme racist and eurocentric views.

Why yes I am an Asian American who has not live in Asia for any long length of time.
But I did study human behavior for some time in college, so if the point of white worshipping has led them to that obsessive level, then I think what the Chinese have to do is to learn the truth and be honest about themselves.
I did say that they have to seriously study their own history and world history at large. Any normal person, chinese or not, will be horrified at how westerners got that level of power. A lot of people who seriously study Chinese history typically have a sense of awe and admiration for how ingenious, advanced in thinking and living, ambitious, cohesive and enduring that nation and culture has been, in comparisons with others.
Other than history, people have to be educated that all humans outside the superficial definitions of race, skin color and nationality and try to see others as ordinary human beings that are not superior nor inferior to you.
Got to differentiate between what the media represents and what reality is. People probably have to travel abroad, work, study and actually communicate with other people to have that knowledge.
If by then one still has issues with this white worshipping, then its very likely a case of insecurity, low self-esteem, ignorance, little self knowledge of one’s talents and limitations, and other mental issues.
It boils all the way down to education, communication hard work and being honest with yourself.
Is that a suggestion you are looking for when you ask one can AA’s and native Asians do to combat this racism?

it wasn’t so much a suggestion as sarcasm of the white worshiping problems in china.
from my observations it seems for the most part asians are too buys trying to make an earning and survive than to learn history or socio-economic realities.
that, plus there are so much conflicts between chinese people there’s a phrase “the chinese are scattered like sand” about intra-ethnic fighting rather than fighting the prevalent social problems in the world.
in short, i don’t expect “auto-racism” the chinese have will go away anytime soon. forget china being the largest rising economy, it’s just lucky there haven’t been any major social unrest like tiananmen 1989 again — or at least the government covers it up pretty well.

And what’s with the racist discrimination against white people in Asia? What is it you dimwits call them? “Sexpats”? Are you equally outraged by enormous amount of sexploitation of Asians at the hands of other Asians? Or, is your outrage reserved only for whites?
You kiddies haven’t got a clue as to what’s going on in China and East Asia, do you?
Why don’t you go over there and live for a few years or a decade and get your eyes opened? Nah, you probably wouldn’t like Asia.

You too. Are you only outraged by white against Asian racism? How do you feel about racism perpetuated by Asians against Asians? By Asians against blacks? By Chinese against southeast Asians? Does any of that racism enrage you? Or are you only outraged when whites act or behave in a racist manner?
If you are only outraged at white racism while ignoring all other racism, guess what that makes you?
That’s right… it makes you a racist.
If you want to fight racism, you need to fight all racism.
Maybe that’s too difficult a concept for you to get your head around?

C’mon… tell us all what measures you have agreed to for fighting “white privilege” in Asia, and for beating down those dirty white ’sexpats”.
Oh, and by the way, did you guys discuss what to do about all those Taiwanese and Japanese sex tourists in China? How about all those Taiwanese guys who take second wives in China while they leave their first wife back in Taiwan? Also, let us know what steps you plan for dealing with all of the Japanese and Taiwanese sex tours to Thailand and southeast Asia.
We’re all anxious to know how you’re going to fight racism.

however, he’s trying to perpetuate lies and deceit about how the situation really is in many asian countries even in the FC students thread, so i’m going to reply here.
simple fact: whites get white privilege in asia even over local asians. forget the lies about how whites are faced with racism; whites are waited on hand and foot and treated with more respect and dignity than even in north amerikkka.
you can even read posts where white “sexpats” have even posted that they get preferential treatment over local asians, blacks, latinos, arabs, and “oversea asians. for example, i’m currently living in beijing and the forums about life here even has whites admitting this.

you are a moron. the issues you bring up have nothing to do with “racism”. true there are many social issues existing in China, but they also exist in the good old USA. Did you see the latest USA Today with the girl raped by a Rhode Island Police officer and then when she called 911 he was the one who arrived on the scene to “investigate”?
Oh maybe that is caused by us Asians being “racist” towards white and black people.
And secondly, non-white people by definition cannot be “racist”. Our anger is simply a reaction to the oppression we have suffered as a group at the hands of the WHITE MAN.
I seriously don’t remember any Asians enslaving Africans and bringing them to the new world. I don’t remember any Asians slaughtering the Native Americans. I don’t remember any Asians forcing opium into China.

And I am no white supremist. Far from it. I do not associate with any particular race. My identity isn’t tied up to any particular race. I am myself and I am unique… I think everyone is unique. I don’t look at you as an Asian… why do you look at me as a white man?
In my opinion, associating with any race and looking for one’s identity in connection with any particular race is by definition a racist idea.
