Here are some well known New York City restaurants that you may have visited:

Why would CW11 produce a false report about a woman who claimed to have been served rat meat?

• A) The New Food King Restaurant has very few health code violations, so it was necessary to find something wrong just out of spite.
• B) There are already existing stereotypes about how Asian people “will eat anything.” A story that trumps up these stereotypes creates sensationalism and comedy which CW11 wants to use to boost their ratings. The fact that the New Food King is among the cleanest restaurants in NYC is inconsequential. The fact that the claim was false is also inconsequential.
• C) Many mainstream media personalities, TV shows, and movies have openly ridiculed various aspects of Asian culture. These open statements which insult Asian Americans have been vastly underreported by mainstream news sources and are rarely scrutinized or even addressed by influential Asian Americans with the capacity to make a difference. CW11 therefore thought that they could get away with this. They also thought that we would “just go away.”
• D) Anyone who claims they found a rat in their food should be given primetime coverage on CW11. It doesn’t matter if the claim has been proven to be true, or if the claim is totally false. Simply coming up with an accusation is good enough to justify a report that is phrased as if it has already been proven, as in this particular case with The New Food King.
