Mrs. JV a.k.a. Natasha Yi Speaks!

Yi: “I’m all about empowering the
Asian community.”
Surprise, surprise…
Mrs. JV a.k.a. Natasha Yi has responded to FALLOUT CENTRAL’s email…to defend her husband (a.k.a. Jeff Vandergrift) and his co-host Dan Lay’s (a.k.a. “Elvis”) history of racist and degrading remarks about Asians.
Well, I guess we know which side of the picket line she’ll be on at this Friday’s protest.

Yi: “They poke fun at everyone and all races!”
Keep an eye on this space for FALLOUT CENTRAL’s decidedly snarky reply to Mrs. Vandergrift’s poor excuse for an explanation.
Below is Mrs. Vandergrift’s email in its entirety. Feel free to send her a piece of your mind.

subject Re: Your husband’s anti-Asian antics
These ’special interest groups’ do not represent all of us. They are
twisting the story and making it look like JV is a racist and has
hatred toward Asians. This is so ridiculous! The prank call was a
joke. The actual call to the Chinese restaurant was nice and pleasant.
He split the track and added a computer voice with over the top Asian
jokes. If the person or people that have headed this lynch mob
campaign against JV and the Doghouse, they would’ve known this.
Again, I want to state that no mean call was ever made to the Chinese
restaurant. It was a very respectful call and the humor was added
later with a computer voice.
They poke fun at everyone and all races! It was a joke. The media has
never once mentioned how much he’s helped the Asian community. He was
a voice for Asians when no one else cared, he’s given out of his own
pocket so much money to battered Asian women, he’s helped out the
Asian community in so many ways. They never mentioned any of that.
It’s interesting that they failed to mention that his producer of 10
years, Lance Otani aka Hollywood, was the one that came up with the
idea for this bit. Out of JV’s 15 years in radio, he has had
producers, phone answerers, and guest bookers that are of Asian decent
almost the entire time. These Asian Americans were a constant part of
creating the programming.
They are targeting JV and The Doghouse because of the whole Imus
thing. These interest groups are taking away our freedom of speech
and taking away one of the most important gifts we have in
life…humor. These ‘groups’ are the ones that are racist and
hateful! I’m getting all these threatening emails saying that they
wish me dead, would like to piss on me, that they wish Cho would have
shot me instead of the Virginia Tech students, and I am a disgrace,
whitewashed wanna-be. Real nice, huh? What the heck did I do?? The
media is taking one side because it’s the media. I WOULD NEVER
ASSOCIATE MYSELF WITH SOMEONE THAT IS RACIST! I’m all about
empowering the Asian community. But if we can’t poke fun of ourselves
than we’re taking life way to serious. My guess is 99.9% of the world
has made a joke about someone because of his or her differences. Does
that make them a racist or a person of hate?
JV turned his radio show into an all spiritual show for a year, a few
years back. His two main points were to have love for all people but
don’t take life too serious. You have to be able to laugh at our
subtle differences. He is a comedian for god sake! And all of his
listeners know that. Should Bobby Lee (an Asian American) from Mad TV
be targeted? Should we also demand the head of Dave Chappelle? Should
Carlos Mencia be silenced?
Should we eliminate all comedy including movies and television when
they do racial humor? Some people would like that. Some people like
when others are poked fun at, but when there are jokes about their own
ethnicity they lose it. I see those as shallow people. Again, JV is
a multi dimensional person. His friends are of all colors. His
causes have helped people of all color. But it would be racist to
eliminate certain groups from his comedy. His comedy is not hateful.
He pokes fun in a playful manner to bring a smile to people’s
faces….not to divide us and discriminate us as human beings. These
‘interest groups’ need to find out people for who they are before
passing judgment or joining lynch mobs that don’t have a clue as to
who they’re attacking.
This lady that is the president of this Asian American group has no
clue what she’s talking about and I am embarrassed as an Asian
American that she says she represents us.
Natasha

Like I said before, she’s a “scab” which is in regards to a strike breaker in union terms. Her as well as Lance Otani.
The term “scab” is a highly derogatory and “fighting word” most frequently used to refer to people who continue to work when trade unionists go on strike action. This is also known as crossing the picket line and often results in their being shunned or assaulted. The classic example from United Kingdom industrial history is that of the miners from Nottinghamshire, who during the UK miners’ strike (1984-1985) did not support strike action by fellow mineworkers in other parts of the country. Those who supported the strike claimed that this was because they enjoyed more favourable mining conditions and thus better wages. However, the Nottinghamshire miners argued that they did not participate because the law required a ballot for a national strike and their area vote had seen around 75% vote against a strike.
People hired to replace striking workers are often derogatively termed scabs by those in favour of the strike. The terms strike-breaker, blackleg, and scab labour are also used. Trade unionists also use the epithet “scab” to refer to workers who are willing to accept terms that union workers have rejected and interfere with the strike action. Some say that the word comes from the idea that the “scabs” are covering a wound. However, “scab” was an old-fashioned English insult. An older word is “blackleg” and this is found in the old folk song, Blackleg Miner, which has been sung by many groups.
During “economic” strikes in the U.S., scabs may be hired as permanent replacements.
The make the lives of everyone who’s fighting for equal rights and respect that much harder and I’m sad to say that the Asian community has the largest concentration of them amoung minority groups.

Subject: Your Racist Husband and Your Cooptation
Here are you defenses for your racist husband:
1. It is just a prank call.
It would’ve been funny if this “prank” call and “humor” wasn’t repeated ad nauseum 24/7 all over the media every time I open my eyes, be it in the movies, TV, advertisement, magazines, etc.
It would’ve been funny if Asian Americans have the same media power to counter act this racist portrayals with the same vitriol 24/7.
Here are a few jokes for you since you are so thick skinned. You probably enjoy them because your husband probably does this to you daily:
Your husband married you because you eyes are so s****** that you can’t see how tiny his manhood is.
Your husband married you because like your eyes, you have a h*********** s****** vagina that can uniquely be satisfied by his tiny manhood.
Your husband married you because you are a s********* w********* that satisfies his ego long time.
2. He pokes fun at everyone and every race.
Only that he pokes fun at Asians 100x more. Only that any other race has the media power to push back. Only that this time, it is the straw that broke the camel’s back and your husband is it.
3. The racist call was added in and not done in real time.
Now, this is a gem. First, this is indicative of his cowardice. He could not even do this “prank” on the real. Second, his portrayal of the Asian victims’ reaction to his taunts as being unemotional and docile is made up and is a direct attack on the dignity of Asians.
4. He has donated money to battered Asian women.
First, one thing has nothing to do with another. Second, his donation is like a slave owner claiming that he is treating them slaves the best he can.
5. Lance Otani the producer is Asian.
There are plenty of Asians in Hollywood that are racist against their own people. Wayne Wang, a director that has created numerous movies that depicted Asians in despicable roles; Lucy Liu, the Asian w****; Bobby Lee, the Asian whipping boy of comedy. Oh, and there is you, representing the Asian w***** that are hungry for the White meat.
6. He has Asian associates and his wife is Asian.
This only shows you how ignorance, self-hate, and without dignity these Asian are, especially you.
How do you d****** yourself in the bed room with your husband? Do you whisper sweet nothings like “me love you long time” to get him in the mood? I bet you do.

fatfish, i don’t know why you even bother with these “scabs” (hey, we like SOWs better don’t we?).
at this point we aren’t even sure if it’s the scab in question or a publicist for the buffoons who wrote that.
the only thing to do is try to get the word out and get more AM not to support the careers of these SOWs. that’s the whole idiocty with AMs, that they’ll support and send money to these SOWs and get backstabbed with racist comments and apologists from these SOWs and they still support them?
(kelly hu’s “sammo HUNG is asian, what you think?”)
WTF? are AM such bootlicking house slaves that they don’t see the betrayal?

Yes! The patented non sequiter from apologists:
Premise 1 - You’re taking away out freedom of speech. Premise 2 - He’s an equal-opportunity offender. Premise 3 - He’s given so much to the Asian community.
Conclusion - you’re a racist!?
Thank you. Finally, a cliche that’s actually funny (not laugh out loud funny) and will stand the test of time, unlike the c*** your husband regurgitates to his audience of sheep.
“Special interest groups?” Wow, what a cowardly way to refer to the protestors. This would imply that the “public interest” is against not degrading Asians. You and your husband are quite the politicians. You sneaky w****, you.

And Pat,
Mysogyny? Oppression? I think you’re actually a bit confused.
When a person sells out his/her own race for a white controlled media, he/she is considered a “w****.”
When Natasha, like her husband, underhandedly referred to the protestors who are demanding for respect and compassion as a “special interest group,” she likened herself to a dishonest politician. Thus, the adjective “sneaky.”
Peope may act a certain way which can make them “w****s.” How can I “act” in order to be a “c****?’
I do agree, however, that we should refrain from these types of insults; they can easily be used by people like Vandergrift and his supporters to accuse us of our supposed hypocrisy; and I can imagine how slow-wittted people can easily buy into it. And we certainly don’t have the time and energy to deal with such diversionary tactics (there are already enough of those around).
Jay said,

Wow, just because an Asian person doesn’t agree with your views, you call them a “scab,” a “sellout” and a “w****”? And then you go assume the reasons why JV married Natasha. Is that because you only view Natasha as a sex object? You assume others only view her as this as well?
Where do you get your misinformation? The DH does not poke fun at Asians “100x more.” Get your facts together, and then we can talk.
According to your flyer, you are a special-interest group. You claim to represent 3/5 of the world’s population, but guess what, Chinese-Americans and Asian-Americans do not represent 3/5 of the world population.
first time reader said,

Jay,
I think you’re a little dense as to how the term “special interest group” is used in public discourse and the connotation it carries.
“scab”, “sellout”, “w****.” These terms, although hurtful, are not simply used here against dissenters simply for the fact that they disagree, as anyone with half of a brain can figure out. We’ve witnessed her actions, and they all fit the characteristics of the three above terms to a T.
And you’re a phony if you think that the majority of people don’t view Natasha Yi as a sex object, and that her husband married her for her soul and brain. But hey, whatever pretense works for you in your battle for the right to demean a minority group…go with it.
And look! The diversionary tactics have already started. Why the hell aren’t we protesting more important issues like the Iraq War!? lol.
Michael said,
April 28, 2007 at 1:32 am
Wow. I express my “opinion” and Im bashed?
Im the type of person that has a very open mind. I will always seek both sides of the issue.
It seems EVERYONE aginst WFNY heard 2 words. ASAIN & RACIST. Then made their decisions without understanding the complete situation. Or the people that your calling “racist”.
If you look at me you would be fearful I may hurt you due to my appearence. But you cant just stereotype me. There is much more than that one impression.
If you have never listened to a couple complete shows… YOU HAVE NO OPINION ON THE SITUATION!
And the clips hand selected by this site dont constitute a good evaluation of what the show is about. Those clips sucked.

The difference between comics mocking Asians vs other races is that they often mock others’ behaviors but our physical attributes (eyes, penis, etc).
The former is far more juvenile and offensive. I mean, do comics today mock h*** J** n**** or f** B**** l***? No, because that’s “unacceptable.”
And yet, watch 25:24 in Carlos Mencia’s (not even his real name, btw) routine here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8q_n8z3auC4) where he mocks “Asian eyes” by pulling his face back with pantyhose.

Way to take the high road on this issue. (That was sarcasm by the way. I hope you weren’t hurt or demeaned by it).
I hope falloutcentral/telly_wong realize the divisive atmosphere they are creating. They’ve brought out people like fatfish, first time reader, and bengee: angry asian males venting their frustation on people who aren’t really the root of their problems. The have said some disgusting, despicable, and demeaning things about people they don’t even know. Why don’t they all confront the people who have really hurt them?

What a load of crap. Natasha, you’re telling me that Lance Otani came up with this idea? So where is he then? Why didn’t he come out to claim sole credit for this idea when Elvis and JV got FIRED???
I’d like to see Lance get up in front of a room full of Asians and say “Yeah, it was my idea to have them call up a Chinese restaurant and make crude sexual comments to the staff and refer to Asian men’s penis’s as “tiny egg roles”. What Asian person in their right mind would suggest that?
Tell me Natasha, what does your Mother and Father think of that husband of yours….. - the one that ridiculed and disrespected your ethnicity? They must think he’s quite the catch!
You seem to think that there is NO connection between what your husband “jokes” about on-air and how he treats you and respects you as a person. Let me tell you: There IS a connection. You just don’t see it. How can your husband have ANY respect for you if he’s going on-air and making anti-Asian jokes?
But hey, you’re a model. People probably treat you nice because you are pretty. And in your mind you think this translates to them respecting you as a person and respecting your Asian heritage. You can’t IMAGINE what it’s like to face racism and harasasment for your race because people have treated you nice all your life. (because they want to f*ck you). So you can’t understand what the “big deal” is about your husband making these kinds of jokes.
You are a true disgrace to the Asian community and I and others in the import car scene will see to it that we no longer support your modeling career. You make a living off of Asian men and defend your husband when he disrespects us. So we’re going to hurt you where it counts the most: your pocketbook.

I’ve been listening to Elvis and JV since their days in the bay area, starting with 97.7
They have never been racists and if you know the bay area, its teeming with asians. I’m also asian and have called into their morning show numerous times in the past.
I even recall a lengthy discussion we have about asian cinema in particular a serious discussion we have about Je Li and if he even compared to Bruce Lee when Jets first appearance in american cinema came out in Leathal Weapon when many americans had never heard about him.
Now, I will go even further, they used to have a hispanic chick that worked form them at wild94.9
There was an over the air incident that happend when she had said something to the affect that some asian people had a smell about them.
Elvis and JV had her fired and on the air critisized her about her remarks. They are far from benig racist.
You people need to stop taking yourselves so seriously.
So basically its ok to tell black, mexican and white jokes, but we asians are off limits? Get off your high horses and get a sense of humor!

Every ethnic group has jokes and streotypes, since when are we above jokes? Lighten up guys! How come you don’t complain about Carlos Mencia? Ever seen his show and how he talks about blacks, whites, asians and mexicans? That is totally worse than Slimp Flied LICE? Come on guys, get a clue.

I don’t think they should have been fired either. I do think they should be held accountable for stupid humour and having a population of stupid listeners like Ty who will offend in order to make a point that degrading an ethnic group is part of free speech.

That’s not surprising that they’re erasing the posts that they don’t like. Totally not surprising at all. The last thing that they’d want to be is confused with the facts — and they don’t want their followers / members to be confused with any facts either. The whole situation sucks.
But you know what really sucks about this? Besides everything? What really sucks is that now when I see a Chinese person like on the subway or on the street I have this little split second where I look at the person and wonder, “…would YOU have supported the OCA if you knew the whole story?” It’s sad because I never looked at a stranger — regardless of their background — as being separate in this way… Now it kinda feels like there is this sort of ‘us and them’ thing going on… It just sucks all around.

first i’d like to say im no yank, i’m Irish and live in u.k.
O.k most would agree that these guys arnt funny and homour is a tallent that these guys don’t have. Most countries think of yanks as being over weight and dumb and yes we tend to take this piss out of you a lot, can you say that when you read that you find that fine? Being Irish myself, ive had my fair share of comments and jokes, a lot i don’t mind even my m8’s take the piss. BUT if i dont know you and you see me in the streets and comment furthermore take the piss, be sure i’m gonna hit you hard. You think I would be wrong to do that? As for Deborah you see a chinese person how the hell you know the persons chinese or even been to china? Do you see a white person and think they are German or french or just American? So as you can see Natasha Yi IS American and defending ones loved ones when you know could be in the wrong is nothing new. When 9/11 happend I heard a lot of jokes and for me I didnt like it, but the people are on the same wave length as these idiots, you think thats freedom of speach or just bad taste?
