How utterly tasteless and crude. We would like to think that after the hot 97 tsunami and now Imus, along with that black panther calling Michelle Malkin a prostitute…people would learn
My wife happens to be Korean-American and her family owns a restaurant in Charleston S.C. They work incredibly hard and for extremely long hours to make a living. To have to put up with crap like this is just plain wrong.
These guys should be off the air.

Glad to see people are stepping up and speaking out. I’m not totally sure these guys need to be taken off the air, but the fact that asian activists spoke up and got them suspended is a good thing. It’s less the specific people, and more the attitude that we have to correct. Taking JV and Elvis off the air (without really addressing the issue) means that your wife’s family won’t get calls from JV and Elvis. Raising awareness means that your wife’s family won’t get calls like this at all.

This just goes to show how stupid and arrogant some DJ’s are. I thought the Chinese workers handled this super weirdo with grace and wit by not falling to his obvious insults. The questioning of why Kung Fu is needed when we have guns available for defense was spot on and hilarious. So much for your ‘Asian’ stereotype - nowadays it’s mainly the white Asianphiles that are into martial arts. The workers’ English was just fine, and they showed their tolerance of anyone’s accent or speech errors by assuming only the best at every instance. At least they try to learn English, and they have taken the ‘customer is always right’ creed to heart. If these bozo DJ’s have ever studied Asian languages, they will have discovered that there are no ‘r’ or ‘l’ sounds, and that is why they have so much trouble with them. It’s a little like us trying to pronounce the German rolling ‘r’. Without extensive training and concentration, it is very hard. It has nothing to do with someone’s intelligence when they have trouble pronouncing strange sounds. In fact, I can’t begin to pronounce many of the Asian sounds that are needed, much less ‘hear’ them. I say, give them a break - at least they are trying. I feel especially sorry for Jeff’s wife. I would not put up with his disrespect for long. His utter lack of respect for anyone other than himself is disgusting. I wouldn’t fire him, though. Fine him a year’s wage each time, and donate that to a worthy cause, depending on which race he makes fun of (in this case, an Asian one). Maybe then he would learn, and some good would come of it all. If not, we could all then look forward to his next prank, and the charities would benefit even more.

The world will be a much better place w/o these kind of bully and hash people around, let alone having them on the air. They should be taken off the air permanently, well, unless they are willing to work in that Chinese restaurant for a year w/o pay! :).

Up until the past couple of years, I have been a resident of NYC. I have in one way or another been involved with Activism either with the Jamaica Queens branch of the NAACP or brother for progress. Although I am not of Asian American decent, I am tired of this type of racist humor. I will not be able to make the Rally because I currently reside in Georgia, I will however be with you guys in spirit. I was wondering if I could contribute to your cause via monetary compensation, a small donation if you will.

Fight the Power! good job leading the cause on the website. I thoroughly enjoyed the letter you sent to the radio station, and feel it should be extremely effective. You have my support! I hate ish like this, and much love to all the people who have to deal w/ and/or understand our plight!

Firstly, this is pretty funny.
Secondly, if I were working at the restaurant, I would have hung up a half a minute into the call. The fact that they stayed on the phone for so long is their own fault. Eventually, one guy there realized it was a joke, and played along.
I fail to see why these guys “needed” to be fired. No one called for The Jerky Boys’ albums to be banned, and what they did was right on this level. Same goes for no furor over Crank Yankers…
Sorry, but your complaints are quite disingenuous. To me, this is outrage for the sake of outrage. Perhaps, you received some sick satisfaction from getting a couple of local-radio shock jocks fired after Imus got canned for something FAR worse than what these guys did.

JV and Elvis are far from funny but when radio hosts are fired because they offend somebody we are starting down a really bad road. This is censorship, pure and simple. I’m not going to defend the bit. It was retarded. It wasn’t even funny. It went on forever. But if we are going to be free people and live in a free country we can’t take away the livelihoods of people in the media who offend us. What kind of free speech do we get then? Well we don’t. We get people who are afraid to speak their minds because they might (and probably will) offend somebody. The chilling effect of the latest crusade to destroy the careers of radio jocks who say offensive crap is going to reverberate far beyond “shock jock” radio.
If we keep trying to silence people we don’t like then free speech is only an abstract concept. The bill of rights was meant to protect unpopular speech. Popular speech, as the saying goes, needs no such protection.
When did we all become so unbelievably thin-skinned? Since when can’t American adults handle some bonehead DJs making stupid jokes about them? The outrage is so misplaced. People are dying in a war. Our government is run by incompetent crooks. The treasury has been emptied by war profiteers and sleazy no-bid deals, our environment is being raped and you guys are all up in arms about a stupid Chinese restaurant prank call?

Having just finished listening to this so-called (comedy) bit, I am so glad to hear that these racist jerks were fired from their jobs. I am an Asian-American (Japanese). One of my parents was an immigrant. It angers me that this is supposed to pass for comedy. The fact that one of the members of “The Doghouse” happens to be married to a very popular Asian-American model/actress doesn’t justify this horrid excuse for comedy.
I know that this story didn’t get a great deal of press. Had the bit been derogatory towards African-American or Latino-Americans, you’d best believe there would’ve been some seriously huge fall-out in the media!
However, since it was focused towards Asian-Americans, who happen to come off as being a bit more tolerant/docile, no one in the media cared.
I, for one, am glad that those 2 men are now unemployed. As a matter of fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if JV’s wife, who happens to be Asian-American, decides to divorce him in the aftermath to all this. After all, she’s been called out for defending his racist actions.

It does not surprise me that these white people act like the barbarians they are..Firing from their job was not enough….they should never be allowed on the air waves again…there are a lot more of these racists creeps out there than you care to know about…..Because we do not shout…these jerks think they can pick on the Asians…so don’t just fume….say something….shout something….or it will get worse…..

This isn’t even the least bit funny. Surprised people actually listen to those retards, station is better off playing static through their segments. We all enjoy stereotypical jokes, pranks, etc. If it were good hearted humor, people with very little sense of humor would surely regard it as just that. But that was just cruel badgering and again not the least bit funny. I agree with their being fired, not because of their jokes being racist, but because they weren’t funny.

I really admire those restauranteurs for being so patient with these guys. They really went out of their way to ignore the bad comments and treated these guys with the utmost respect. I think anyone who treats people with such respect will do very well in business.
